PhyloSIB 2009 -- The Yearly Phylogeny Meeting of SIB

This year's phylogenetic meeting ("PhyloSIB") will take place at ETH Zurich. We are going to follow the nice format introduced last time in Lausanne: short presentations (10-15 minutes) organized around two main topics, with plenty of time for discussions.

Topics

1. Phylogeny and Function. This session will focus on the relation between phylogeny and function. For instance, the problem of propagating protein function annotations could be of particular interest to many of us.
   
   
2. Better Models of Evolution. The availability of vast amounts of genomic data and powerful computers has resulted in increasingly sophisticated models of evolution. Which refinements yield most improvement? How can these model be tested? How can they be computed efficiently? Which evolutionary forces (e.g. lateral gene transfer, domain shuffling, coevolution) require better models?
